I just had a hitch installed today but will be towing a heavy trailer and will want to install a trans cooler.

3 points 1 year ago. Disconnect one transmission cooler line from the rad and start stop engine to remove 2 quarts each time adding the same amount to the trans until you have drained out 12 quarts and fluid is red. Running an external cooler in series with the radiator. 2005 4runner v8 lt after.

Some time ago i found a thread on t4r where a guy using an external cooler wired an extra fan to pull air through it at low speeds. Are there any write ups guides on installing a transmission cooler for a third gen tacoma that does not have the tow package.
