Place a container under the heater core pipe connections to catch spilling coolant.
97 expedition heater core removal.
Remove the two screws.

This is a really hard and indepth job to do but wil save you a 1000 dollars doing it.
With all 3 screws out pull and remove the piece.

Remove the hoses by twisting as you pull.
Disconnect the heater core ground cable strap that attaches to the interior firewall with a single bolt.

Take off the heater core cover by removing its screws then pull the core out making sure you don t tear the foam material surrounding it.

Remove the blend door assembly from the case.
Detach the interior heater core intake and return hoses from the core nipples by releasing the squeeze clamps using channel lock pliers.
